Modern Traditional Card Games

Solitaire

Clear the Dungeon

Invented by Mark Ball, from the channel Riffle Shuffle & Roll, in 2022. It's a good neo-trad solitaire, in both Classic and Advanced modes.

Dungeon Solitaire - Tomb of the Four Kings

A very atmospheric and thrilling game by Matthew Lowes, designed back in 2015. The gameplay is almost totally luck-based, but the theme is crafted so well with the mechanics, that it's not even a problem, but part of its charm.

Gridcannon

Gridcannon is a neo-trad solitaire but with a sick purpose: to kill all the royals. Designed by Tom Francis in 2019, it's a game of card placement where you try to match the card sum on the rows and columns with the royal's value.

Hebrac's Dungeon

It is one of the first games in the genre, if not the first. It dates back to 2005 and was created by Luc Miron, that seems to have just made this game and then disappeared.

Isaludo

A collection of ten great solitaires designed by Will Su and released in 2021. All of the games are great fun and masterfully designed, combining themes and mechanics in very creative ways.

Scoundrel

Scoundrel is an elegant modern solitaire designed by Zach Gage and Kurt Bieg in 2011. Your goal in this game is to make your way through the dungeon, room after room. As you progress, you will need to defeat enemies, equip weapons and manage the health potions. The game is very cleverly designed and demands a good amount of skill and wit from the player.

Solitary Journey

Solitary Journey is more an experience than a game. It's an in-hand solitaire where you're travelling across various landscapes collecting treasures and meeting fellow travelers. Designed by Karen Deal Robinson in 2018.

District Noir

In this game each player assumes the role of a mobster in a battle for the control of the city. Your goal is to collect cards from the table, scoring the most points. Since each player has the exact same number of actions to do in a round, the core of the gameplay is the timing to take your actions and bluffing to conceal your next move.

Duo Regna

Duo Regna is a surprisingly fun experience for such a small game, specially the Gladiator retheme that adds an extra level of excitement to the game. In this game players are dealt the same hand of cards and plays simultaneously. Each round affects the score system, which works like a tug-of-war.

Jekyll vs Hyde

Jekyll versus Hyde is an intriguing trick-taking game for two players. Each player assumes the role of Jekyll or Hyde, and each has a distinct goal. Hyde wants to break the balance of the game, by winning or losing the majority of tricks; and Jekyll wants to balance the score. This creates a very interesting and thematic dynamics in the game, where players struggle to keep, or lose, the control of the doctor's mind.
